Barn Manager and Trainer
Julie Cotton-Jewell has been riding and training at Cypress Stables since 1990. She grew up with horses in La Canada in Southern California riding at her family’s stable and at Flintridge Riding Club. After graduating from Carmel High School and Saint Mary’s College of California, in 1990 Julie began working full time with the horses at Cypress Stables. Julie coached many of her riders into the top ribbons and championships in junior equitation and the children’s hunters divisions in Northern California. Julie’s enormous love of horses and the knowledge of what it takes to care for them is apparent here at Cypress Stables in the detailed care given to each of our horses. For almost 25 years, Julie has been the Facilities Manager at Cypress Stables with hands on care of the horses alongside her handpicked team. Julie’s other endeavors include raising her two wonderful children, Maddie and Will with her husband of 20 years, Scott Jewell. She also loves skiing, hiking, theater and baseball.
Samantha has been a hunter/jumper equestrian professional in Carmel Valley for the past 20 years. She has had the great pleasure of working with junior riders, helping them achieve their goals in the show ring and in life. Under her competent tutelage her students have competed at the world renowned Spruce Meadows in Canada, and in the East at the Maclay Medal Finals.
Samantha’s interest in her students is for the long haul. Her students continue to rely on her counsel well after they’ve moved on to college, to marriage, to life. They never lose touch. She is a teacher, a mentor, and a friend to all of the young persons who have trained with her-in the present and into the future. Samantha teaches young people much more than how to ride and show a horse. There is a satisfaction and pride beyond words that bonds her to her students.
